Yoko Ono will be her new album great. The widow of John Lennon in conversation can be no doubt that their doubts are unfamiliar.
For the first time in eight years, the artist and musician Yoko Ono has again released an album. Therefore, the widow of rock musician John Lennon Plastic Ono Band with new Japanese and American musicians has created. Has produced the album her son Sean Lennon.
Ms Ono, as it came after the long break for the new album?
I felt after the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001 simply important to travel and talk about world peace. And my “Imagine Peace” tower built in Iceland: a tower of life, written in 24 languages on the “Imagine Peace”, and whose light is always of 9 October, John’s birthday, until 8 Burn December, his death should. Eventually, my son Sean said: You should now slow to address your album, and with new music.
The album has become versatile.
(excited) Yes, totally different. Is not that great?
Yes, super.
I come from classical music and jazz here, unlike many other musicians I’ve said before: I only do classical or avant-garde. As in 1968, the Free-saxophonist Ornette Coleman came and asked me to play with him a show that I’ve done it. And then I’m on this rocker (stumbled laughs heartily) and have just done that – I’ve made, and always passionately interested in music. This time I had planned to do just what comes into my head – it’s as if I were to publish a map of my brain.
Much revolves around the memories, the music sounds dreamy and wistful. Does this sound to do with aging?
It’s about memory, but as much about the future. To me, getting older, I must not worry. Also, is not whether I am or not avant-garde. I just need the surprise. And I do not look forward to unpredictability. I try to be just what I am now to each.
They exhibit in Berlin a few works. One of them, “My Mummy Is Beautiful,” is an invitation to the visitor, his mother on the empty space to draw.
Toll, no one? All three works that I show dealing with women. I wanted to remind you that we women are very important. Also you would not exist without us, finally.
The audience included, is typical of your art.
Yes, but that goes for my music. Even “Two Virgins” – 1968 my first album with John Lennon was wearing – the subtitle, “Unfinished Music Part One”, the next album was called “Part Two”. This means that people can play their own stuff to it. But no one has made.
2007 they released the remix album “I’m A Witch ‘. With the electronic music and the remix culture, pop music has caught your concept of forter counting.
Exactly, that’s great. Now I must no longer do so. I will not even run after them (laughs). But I’ve never told me: Well, which you need to do now. You need to understand that has to do with me everything with emotion.
For example?
In 2004 I went to the Liverpool Biennial, “My Mommy Was Beautiful” – pictures of naked breasts and a vagina, which were distributed on posters, flyers or posters. I thought that’s the nicest thing I can give, they will love it. It was dedicated to John, because this mother had been fixed. But they responded really upset. I want to provoke anyone, I just give only what is going on in my head.
Her art always had a strong political impulse. Has something changed since Obama?
Well, within established political institutions have a difficult time they are caught in certain limits. But what works well, that’s us. And the way we do things with imagination. Music has a tremendous healing vibration, and visual art has this tremendous power to visualize reality. With visual and auditory arts, we can cover the planet and transform into a planet of music and the arts. If we do that, we have – (Clap your hands all over) quickly to world peace. That will come very soon so.
Some pieces of the album, including “D Train” sounds pretty aggressive.
The “D Train” is the Death-Train, the train of death. We are waiting for death, and while we wait to pass all sorts of things. In the first song is about the now, about all the things that bring you emotionally behind. In the end, the sun rises again. As I say, “I’m Alive,” I’m alive. But this means that we live. And we will create a new era. In a way my album predicts the future. Moreover, it brings the new age.
You sound very optimistic.
Not optimistic, realistic. Our planet will grow from its current embryonic stage. We will be wise and free, creating an incredible world. We have, for example, stem cells, we can produce clones of a single hair. Many interesting things happen. They focus on something that does not happen. Remember: Whatever you think or do, it affects the whole world. (Pause, chuckle.) You believe me not a word, is not it?
