Here’s a return to high levels on which I would have wagered over: that of Mos Def.
Mos Def is a rapper (and actor) that is taking its first steps onto people like De La Soul and DJ Krush. The debut recording is done in collaboration with Talib Kweli on behalf of Black Star (1998), a solo album, a masterpiece. Mos then started solo career with “Black on Both Sides”, another disc hinge dell ‘hip hop world targato 1999.
After such a debut, expectations were so many and the disappointment was great when it came out five years after “The New Danger”, not evil, but infinitely less than the predecessor. Even worse was the next “True Magic” (2006), definitely the lowest point of career Mos. This week is out “The Ecstatic,” the new album, which not only proposes a Mos Def back in shape, but it applies also to be the rap album of the year (but as we have seen no shortage of alternatives … Dalek, POS, DOOM …). After the jump we propose the new single “Quiet Dog” live at the Letterman Show.
