Buffy has a sweet voice

February 20th, 2009 Peter

Duffy has a voice, its first brand. It would be easy to compare her to Anastasia or Joss Stone, but the fact is that the girl chose to put her body on the music, which puts it at the outset over the lot. However, can we really talk about success?

Let us first things in place: by its resolute soul music, Aimée Anne Duffy would, rather on the side of a Dusty Springfield, plus the advantage of writing her own songs. It does also not the first attempt, since she had already recorded a first EP simply named Aimée Duffy in 2004, but on this occasion she met Bernard Butler (ex – Suede, The Tears), since become a regular, if not his Pygmalion.

Artist on her own, Duffy does not hit the headlines. Just she had some problems with his stepfather, and it was not what really fuel the cabbage leaves. Low profile, therefore, for this singer also dedicated to the city on stage. But all said immediately, his concerts are dull and soporific as possible, without any life or energy. At least, with Amy Winehouse, for some it may come, it could take bets, while with Duffy, nothing, it’s like being at a concert of Godspeed You Black Emperor (where the comma is placed), with flies flying.

As for the album, things are already in a better omen. With the exception of the dreadful Mercy, it is generally pleasant, and even contains a pearl intemporelle named Warwick Avenue, which could in itself to buy the disc if only it did not remove all of the lot . Because the rest is effective but very common. The production is good – better than Amy Winehouse – but it is difficult to forget that this is not the soundtrack of a film a bit dated. However, with more than two million records sold, certainly it does not big world, especially since the future looks bright for her, Tom Jones having expressed the wish to record with it. And if Tom Jones is a customer
