April 5th, 2009 Peter

Previously, Bob Dylan was “afraid of the Internet”. After the success of recent years, he now offers a song of his new album as a download. Listen to some tracks, it’s a big promise.

“I fear me, to go into the Internet. “The Bob Dylan said in an interview the 2,001th today is the one who lures us into the web. This week has been on his website “Beyond Here Lies Nothin ‘,” the first song of his new album “Together through Life,” available for download, and a few days ago he published a long interview gleichenorts as it rarely exists. The 67-year-old singer is on the Internet arrived. In addition, not only there: Recently there is an application for the iPhone, which a lot of Dylan quotes gathered, so that also at the party at any time may cite something clever.

Popularity surge thanks to films

Dylan’s presence in contemporary media is not least a consequence of the popularity of push, the singer, thanks to the documentary “No Direction Home” by Martin Scorsese and Todd Haynes’ Biopic “I’m Not There” is experiencing. Both films were successful and Dylan called back to a broad public awareness

At the same time, the two films Dylan from the interpretation of the so-called circle Dylanologen ripped, a fan whose esoteric range of devotion to academic analysis goes – and often both mixed. Dylan himself is looking forward in the aforementioned interview about the new freedom of movement and amused by the seriousness of the beer Dylanologen: “Previously there was no match for my listeners. Some favorite songs of my first phase. Some of the latter. Some Christians phase. Some of the post-Columbian. Some pre-raffaelitische. ”

The newly added listeners do these differences no longer: “You see the style and content in an internal, uniform type and leave it there, too,” delighted Dylan. “My images are seen as what they are, and the liberating effect. There is no more mystification. ”

New musicians bring fire back

And you have to say is that Dylan the guesswork with its associative texts drives. Anyway, it’s a little strange that Dylan just with his last album “Modern Times” had such enormous success. The album was anything but exciting, all the songs that were in similar form already in the two predecessors, “Love and Theft” (2001) and “Time Out of Mind” (1997) to be heard, only better. This is mainly because before Dylan “Modern Times” excellent guitarists Larry Campbell and Charlie Sexton and replacement with the same finger is finished, but less happy people playing game.

Dylan was now itself a view? In any event, he expanded his studio crew at the Los Lobos-accordionist David Hidalgo and Mike Campbell and Benmont Trench of Tom Pettys “Heartbreakers.” In particular, the use of the accordion is worthwhile, such as “Beyond Here Lies Nothin ‘” shows. It brings a heat back into the music, the last was always weaker. Dylan himself says: “I wish I had it on some of my previous albums more frequently used.”

New album, thanks to movie

That there is this new album even exists is part of the French director Olivier Dahan to thank. Dahan asked after a Dylan song for his new film. Dylan, the Dahan, Edith Piaf Biopic «La vie en rose” well-liked, offered “Life Is Hard,” the second piece on the album. The composition apparently sparked a creative thrust, since Dylan wrote nine more songs. On the Internet there are positive reviews of a preliminary short-Anhörsessions.

The opener offered to download the new album does actually want more. “Beyond Here Lies Nothin ‘” was recorded live and staggering like a ship full of drunken pirates, roaring in the death of the sail forward. Over a rumba beat duel guitars to rock and roll with horns and the accordion, and Dylan starts a raw song about unconditional love on the edge of death: “Oh well I love you pretty baby / You’re the only love I’ve ever known / Just as long as you stay with me / The whole world is my throne / Beyond here lies nothing / Nothing we can call our own.” The lyrics of Dylan, it is dark as ever. However, the fire of the music shines again strong.
